ABOUT THE ARTIST:


jan henning, DWS, a watercolor artist, is a retired elementary school art teacher with over 32 years of service teaching children. Since 1997 she has provided art instruction for adults and children in both evening courses and workshops. She also works in pastels and acrylics. jan holds a BS in Art Education SUNY New Paltz. Her post-graduate work was done at Marywood University, Scranton, PA, Kutztown University, Kutztown, PA, Penn State University, Worthington Campus, Scranton, PA, Wilkes University, Wilkes Barre, PA and NEIU #18, Kingston, PA. The artist also did an Architectural Residency for Teachers at Frank Lloyd Wright's Fallingwater in Mill Run, PA. jan has received the EDUCATOR of the YEAR award from the Graduate Department of Marywood University.

ARTIST'S STATEMENT:

"Representing nature in the form of landscapes is the driving force behind most of my artwork. I am trying to reproduce and re-interpret the great color and the majestic forms that were originally created by God. The 'awesomeness' of our surroundings is the catalyst for my work and I am striving to instill this in the eye of the viewer."

The Artist is very active in a Monday Painting Group through the EMCA Gallery in Tunkhannock, PA. The group takes every weather friendly opportunity to work en plein air. In January the group works still life in the Artist's spacious studio. Summer may find the group at the Artist's Delaware Studio location focusing on en plein air opportunities of the marsh and sea shore.

MULTI-NATIONAL IMPACT:

The artist has painted en plein air in Ontario and Nova Scotia Canada and across the Eastern United States. Her work hangs in numerous homes and businesses from Ontario, Canada, to South Carolina and west to Dallas, Texas.
